Business phone systems, sorted before the switch-off.

Openreach is switching off the UK’s old analogue phone network by 31 January 2027. We help growing businesses move to a modern VoIP phone system, keep their numbers and have someone to call when something needs changing.

A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

A VoIP (voice over internet protocol) phone system carries calls over your internet connection instead of a copper line. It works on desk phones, mobiles and laptops, and makes it easier to add users, route calls and work across more than one site. We help you choose the right provider, move your existing numbers and set the system up around the way your business answers calls. Then, if you want, we look after it for a monthly fee.

THE RIGHT FIT

When does this make sense?

01

You still have analogue or ISDN lines.

New analogue and ISDN lines have not been sold since 2023, and the remaining ones are switched off by 31 January 2027. Anything still connected to them needs a plan: phones, alarms, lift lines, door entry, card machines and fax.

02

Your phone system no longer fits how you work.

Calls ring at desks nobody sits at, people give out personal mobile numbers, and adding a new starter means waiting for an engineer.

03

You’re paying for lines you don’t use.

Old contracts, unused numbers and separate bills for each site add up. One system with per-user pricing is usually simpler to manage and easier to understand.

04

You’re moving, opening a site or merging teams.

A move or acquisition is the right time to bring everyone onto one system, with numbers that follow people rather than desks.

FROM IDEAS TO DELIVERY

What’s included?

01

Switch-off check

A list of every line and number you have, what is connected to it and what needs to move before the deadline, including alarms, lifts and card machines.

02

Provider and system choice

A recommendation based on how you take calls, how many people need a phone and the tools you already use, such as Microsoft Teams. We explain the options and costs in plain terms.

03

Number porting

We manage the move of your existing numbers, so customers keep calling the numbers they already know.

04

Set up around your business

Users, call routing, opening hours, voicemail, ring groups and call recording configured around the way you answer calls.

05

Apps and handsets

Apps on mobiles and laptops for most people, with desk phones recommended where they are genuinely useful. We test the important call journeys before go-live.

06

Ongoing management

An optional monthly arrangement for changes, new starters, leavers and provider issues, so you have one place to go when something needs changing.

HOW WE WORK

How does it work?

  1. 01

    Check

List your lines, numbers, contracts and anything connected to them. Agree what has to move and by when.

  2. 02

    Recommend

Compare suitable providers and agree the system, the monthly cost and a switchover date.

  3. 03

    Switch over

Port the numbers, set up users and call routing, and test calls before go-live, keeping disruption to a minimum.

  4. 04

    Look after

Hand over clear documentation, then manage changes month to month if you would like us to.

USEFUL TO KNOW

Frequently asked questions.

When is the UK landline switch-off?

Openreach is retiring the UK’s analogue phone network (PSTN) and ISDN by 31 January 2027. New analogue and ISDN lines have not been sold since September 2023. Lines still in use need to move to a digital service before the deadline.

What is a VoIP phone system?

VoIP carries phone calls over an internet connection instead of a copper line. Calls can be made and answered on desk phones, mobile apps or computers, and users and call routing can be changed online rather than by an engineer.

Can we keep our existing phone numbers?

In most cases, yes. Geographic and non-geographic numbers can usually be moved (ported) to a new provider. We check each number before the switchover and manage the porting process.

What else is affected besides our phones?

Anything that uses an analogue line, such as alarm systems, lift emergency lines, door entry, some card machines and fax. We list them during the switch-off check so nothing stops working unexpectedly.

Do we need new desk phones?

Not necessarily. Many people simply use an app on their mobile or laptop. Some existing handsets can be reused, and where desk phones are useful we recommend suitable models.

Can it work with Microsoft Teams?

Yes. Calls can be made and received in Teams with a suitable calling plan or provider. We help you decide whether Teams or a separate phone system better suits the way you work.

Who do we call if something goes wrong?

Your contract for the phone service is with the provider. If you choose ongoing management, you call us first and we deal with the provider on your behalf.
